What to Bring When You Buy a New Car

Buying a new car is extremely fun and exciting. All the preparation that goes into it, the research leading up to eventually going to the dealership to peruse and test drive. Discovering your various options and working with a great salesman like those you find at Larry H. Miller Used Car Supermarkets. Eventually finding the perfect vehicle. Its dependable, exactly what you need, but now you have reached the overwhelming part of the experience. Time to head to financing.

Whether it’s a car, truck, or SUV, you need to know that you are in good hands with our finance department. We are dedicated to providing you with the best deal on your dream car. However, there are still a few things you need to go in prepared with. We see a lot of new car buyers who are caught off-guard when they learn all the different things they need, so break out a note on your phone and take these down.

-       Your valid driver’s license.
-       One of your recent pay stubs, the more recent the better.
-       A recent utility bill to provide proof of residence.
-       Contact information and addresses for six references.
-       Vehicle title if you’re trading in a vehicle.
-       Proof of any other type of income including child support, Social Security, etc.

Likely these are things that you just carry with you in your wallet every day, so it is best if you take the time now to locate them for when you are ready to take the plunge.

You may want to consider a few additional things listed below to bring with you:

First, if you are applying for a loan you are more than likely going to need to provide proof of insurance. This can come from the vehicle you are already driving and planning on trading in, or you will need to reach out to an insurance provider. We will reach out to them to ensure you are fully covered, which is a fairly easy process, but you need to make sure you have done your part to make it run as smoothly as possible.

Second, that pesky title. We really can’t do a trade-in without it. If you are still working with a bank to pay it off, then you might want to reach out to them to be sure you can still get it. Otherwise you better start looking around for it. Check under the seats, the trunk, glove box, center counsel, any kind of pockets. If it’s somewhere in your house you are on your own there. We can request it from the DMV but that can drastically delay the time it takes to process your trade-in. It’s always best to be prepared.

One last thing, don’t forget your checkbook. And if you don’t have one of those, bring your checking account information and routing number. We’re going to need that info as well.

Buying a car can seem like a never-ending laundry list of things you need to bring and do, but it is one of the most significant purchases you will ever make. Make it worth your while and be prepared. Our finance team is ready to help in any way they can, but we can only do as much as you do beforehand. Be sure to meet us halfway and we promise to have you on the road sooner rather than later. Already done your part? Head over to our lot today and see what we can do for you. You’ll be heading down the road in your new set of wheels in no time.
